Ralph Lauren Spring/Summer Collection 2013

Ralph Lauren took his show on the road for Spring/Summer 2013 to visit various exotic locations around the globe. But sometimes it seemed a little too costume theme party. Do women in France really wear berets and neckerchiefs all of the time? Do women in Spain look like matadors? For Lauren, the expectations are always high. Given these shortcomings, conceptual framing and staging aside, America’s most successful designer, master tailor and showman once again delivered intriguing and superbly executed fashion.

There was a decided degree of brilliance in Lauren’s mix of retro 1950’s, modern, classic European, American Western and, of course, his preverbal playground of masculine-feminine often in the same look. One of the best examples of this was his tenth outfit, worn by Ji Hye Park, who was in an off the shoulder 1950’s French top with a dazzling modern wrap around strap and a long skirt that is both frontier and urban looking. There were many other such moments; Lauren ended with another dazzling display of slender evening wear.
