Phillip Lim Spring 2014 Collection at New York Fashion Week 2013

With rocks on the runway and fog wafting in, 3.1 Phillip Lim went back to the elements for Spring 2014. Water appeared in wave motifs on the bottom of boxy tops, while fire appeared in the flickery edges of moire leopard print. There were plenty of Lim’s sharply cut trousers and moto jackets in the mix, alongside loose shift dresses. A new doctor’s bag shape appeared for purses with charms hanging sweetly on the outside, for a style that is sure to be a hit.

If Daft Punk wrote the music for the Blue Lagoon movie remake, the result would be something like the beauty look at 3.1 Phillip Lim’s Spring 2014 presentation. Inspired by the holographic sunglasses in the collection, lead makeup artist Francelle Daly featured iridescent purple shades in the makeup concept. After incorporating a few drops of Copacabana Illuminator ($30) to tinted moisturizer to give the entire face a highlight, she added bluish-purple tones to the face using the Luxor Multiple ($39). The finished look had a pearlized effect, with blue and purple undertones that shimmered in the runway lighting.

While skin was luminous and futuristic, the hair was more like a trip to Gilligan’s Island. Paul Hanlon wanted the hair to be savage, as if the models washed up on a deserted beach. He dampened the entire head with Osis Grip mousse ($19) and Twin Curl ($20) before tying strands in a knot at the nape. Then, hair was diffused dry for a chunky, dreadlock finish.
