10th Penang Island Jazz Festival 2013

The island of Penang, Malaysia comes alive with music once again as The Penang Island Jazz Festival, this year, celebrates its 10 Anniversary from 5^th to 8^th December 2013!

This year’s festival kicks off with “An Evening With Casey Abrams”, a one-night only performance by Casey Abrams, the 2011 American Idol Season 10 finalist, on Thursday, 5^th December at the Grand Ballroom, Bayview Beach Resort. Casey Abrams is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and American Idol (10th season 2011) finalist. He is one of the more memorable finalists in the American Idol programme that is creative/jazz oriented. The opening act for the concert is Malaysia’s own Liyana Fizi.

Performers for this year’s “Jazz By The Beach” stage ( Saturday, 7^th & Sunday, 8^th December) at Bayview Beach Resort Gardens include The Freddy Cole Quartet featuring Freddy Cole – Piano, Elias Bailey – Bass, Curtis Boyd – Drums, Randy Napoleon – Guitar, ESKA, Alison Burns & Martin Taylor, Hedvig Mollestad Trio, Okan Ersan Quartet, JazzKamikaze, Michael Schiefel & Carsten Daerr, Yoon Jeong Heo Black String, Jazz Connection, Vinalog and others.

A series of talks and forums will also be held in conjunction with this year’s festival and some of the Speakers/Panelists for this year’s “Island Forum Sessions” include Ben Mandelson (Founder of the World Music Expo or WOMEX), Peter Schulze (Artistic Director of jazzahead) and Jae Jin In (Artistic Director of Jarasum International Jazz Festival).

Tickets to the “An Evening with Casey Abrams” and “Jazz by the Beach” performances are priced at RM78.00 (including RM3 ticketing fee) per night.
