Forgotten Flavors of Jakarta
Sunday, June 9, 2013
Starts from 12.00 PM – 14.30 PM
at a SECRET place with SECRET menu and SECRET host….
Jakarta often plays hide and seek with its own history.
Few people still want to revive the nostalgic triumph of their food meanwhile many are dispersedly in hurry to race for a pseudo future. An irony? We simply call it a quirky mockery.
Behind its rapid development towards modernism, Jakarta retains many forgotten narratives about the traditional and serene way of eating. Shady trees, fruit gardens, tropical forest, clean river, fresh water fish, bamboo, and monkeys once occupied this part of erupted concrete jungle and nowadays, only few local people can tell the real story (hopefully it will not become a tale). Those people certainly know how biodiversity influenced their diet, when to ripe the best fruit and its edible fungus grown beneath the tree, what to eat during seasonal harvest, what is the difference between duku and koskosan fruit, why it is important to feed children with particular edible herbs, and so on…
And now, for them, eating those delicacies are elusive, exclusive, and almost impossible.
If you have been living in Jakarta for quite a while, then you might want to savor its ephemeral biodiversity of taste in another occasion of Underground Secret Dining. We shall relish eccentric ingredients and recipes, gathered from discussion with local people in this urban village. You can simply experience the unique taste of blended exotic local fruit in a spicy aromatic appetizer, edible herbs leaves made into salad, fruit skin stir fried to become a delectable food, and seasoned salt is sauteed to elevate its exceptional taste.
Ready to experience this?
Total addiction of flavors is one step closer now…

About Underground Secret Dining
Why do we call it underground? Simply because it is arranged secretively, to provide an alternative food culture experience for those who are craving for it.
It is a breakthrough concept popularized by many foodaholics around the world.
It is also contagious!
Sao Paolo, Rio De Janeiro, San Francisco, Chicago, London, Hong Kong, and Sydney are infected by it. Many people flock into secret hidden places to savor secret recipes created by a host chef or just a humble housewife who is willing to share her love and passion for food.
In Jakarta, it is going to be unique, prolific, and essential mouthwatering! Blah blah blah, you will experience by yourself, anyway!!
We manage a monthly small event with carefully selected of local food and beverages to escalate the local ambience among foodaholics who would like to experience something different and breakthrough.
We did research beforehand, to make sure the event runs smoothly and delivers the utmost local flavor to the guests.
We look forward to having you on June 9, 2013.
If you can’t make it, we will highly appreciate if you could pass this message to your other friends to share the true joy of food culture.
Thank you.
Regards,
Azanaya
